Solar powered LED lights

Solar road lights are starting to appear in the U.S., although they are common in Europe and Asia.  As road and parking guides, they have unique benefits that cannot be achieved by signs, reflectors or any other method.  They provide much greater safety than reflectors, which often fade quickly and are not clearly visible in rain or fog, or when the surface is wet. Use them for roadways, roadside posts, driveway markers, walls, traffic islands, walkways, docks, and other places to guide or warn. 

LEDs provide information to the driver or pedestrian that defines the safe limits.  They are certain to save money from property damage and personal injuries.  Note in the pictures how the roadway past the curve would disappear at night without the LEDs. Even the colors help.  Here, the left edge is red, the middle is white, and the driveway has green markers.  All visible from over a 1/2 mile away.

SOLAR PANELS There are either one or two 3v, 75mA solar panels per unit of crystalline silicon.  They do not need direct sun to charge.

LEDS  These LED's are super bright.  They can be seen for more than 1/2 mile. Models vary from 2 or 3 LEDs per side, with some models available in one side lit only. Colors are white, red, blue, green and yellow.

ENERGY STORAGE  Road lights are available in both battery and capacitor models, with the capacitors being much longer lived, around 3-5 years for batteries, 10-15 for capacitors. They are housed in aluminum and/or polycarbonate casings and can withstand the pressure of trucks driving over them.

APPLICATION  Use adhesive (or in some cases screws) to secure them to a surface.  Some models have a post to prevent slippage.
